16th January 2018: Rainow Pre School Little Schools Birdwatch

Overnight snow did not deter Rainow Pre School Birdwatchers from completing their ‘Little School Birdwatch’. The session started indoors with everyone listening to birdsong and looking at pictures of some of our most familiar birds. Tina and Susan were delighted that the children were so interested in birds, some could even identify blackbirds, blue tits and even a woodpecker. Everyone identified the robin with ease. The children enthusiastically named some of the other birds they knew like harpy eagle and penguin. When it was time for our Birdwatching walk everyone wrapped up warm with coats, hats and scarves. 16th January 2018: Ivy Bank Primary Big Schools Birdwatch

Intrepid birdwatchers in Year One at Ivy Bank defied the weather forecast (and a few showers of sleet) to contribute to The RSPB’s Big School Birdwatch. The morning’s sessions started in the classroom with and introduction to the world of Wildlife Explorers. Each class built a ‘wildlife explorer’ with key items of equipment: binoculars, magnifying glass, pond net, ID book and of course a Wildlife Explorers T-shirt! The children learned about all the different activities wildlife explorers get involved in with the help of some volunteers! Students also had fun identifying the Top 10 Cheshire Garden birds – great practice … Click here for more information…..

Monday 15th January 2018: Garden Birds – Our Familiar Feathered Friends

The group constructed a ‘wildlife explorer’ (with key items of equipment: binoculars, magnifying glass, pond net, ID book and of course a Wildlife Explorers T-shirt!) and demonstrated typical wildlife explorer activities with the help of a few props. Thanks to Emilia who demonstrated the bee collecting pollen game brilliantly! As well as identifying the … Click here for more information…..

The class then identified the Top 10 Garden Birds in Cheshire (from the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch 2017). Leaders were really impressed by the excellent bird identification knowledge of the class.
