This year’s event was in partnership with the National Trust at Hare Hill in Alderley Edge. The site is a tranquil woodland garden surrounded by parkland, once part of Charles Brocklehurst’s estate. We have worked with Hare Hill before on the Macclesfield Big Bird Box Build and they have Kindly hosted our ‘Dawn Chorus and Barbecue Breakfast’ event for the last 2 years.
As with previous years ‘Nature Needs You’ our leaders and wildlife explorers were running lots of different family activities for visitors, to Hare Hill, to enjoy. Children could get supervised help to make and take home a bird box, visitors could make a pine cone feeder, pot up some wildflower seeds or make a lovely scented lavender bag.
Events like these are also an opportunity to recruit new members and it was great to speak to visitors who were hoping to join the group once there children were a little older. The leaders and phoenix members also answered lots of wildlife questions from visitors to our stall and it was really heartening to find that everyone who chatted to us were keen to encourage their local wildlife.
Thanks again to the National Trust team at Hare Hill for inviting us to run ‘Nature Needs You’ at their beautiful site.
