Sunday 28th February 2016: Nestboxes for Danes Moss

The first event of The Macclesfield Big Bird Box Build – nestbox building event at Lyme Green Retail Park.

Volunteers and Leaders from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers gathered for the first event of our project  ‘The Macclesfield Big Bird Box Build’,  a public nestbox building event at Lyme Green Retail Park.

Youngsters of all ages, under careful supervision, took up hammers and drills to create a range of different designs of bird box to suit species from blue tits and great tits to treecreepers , redstarts and barn owls.

An industrious morning resulted in completion of nearly 50 bird boxes. At the end of the event volunteers put up the very first bird box of the campaign – a Barn Owl box.

In the next few weeks more boxes will be put in place at Danes Moss Nature Reserve and other sites across Macclesfield in time for the breeding season.
