For their first meeting of 2014 Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers took a closer look at the world of garden birds. In preparation for The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch at the end of the month children brushed up their identification skills and learned how to use binoculars safely.
Both groups also had a go at identifying mystery birds by their silhouettes – for some reason nobody guessed the Whinchat correctly!
Explorers also made colourful Blue tit collage calendars to take home.
Phoenix members also enjoyed playing Garden Bird Taboo – having to describe birds without mentioning their names and other key words.
The group will be running their own RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch event at the Jodrell Bank Arboretum on January 26th – please see the link for details and call Tina on 07870 804413 to book a place.
Why not take part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch 2014?
Bird populations are a great indicator of the health of the countryside and the more people that join in over the weekend of 25-26 January, the more information The RSPB gathers on the ups and downs of wildlife where we live. Being part of the Big Garden Birdwatch is simple. It takes just an hour and you can complete the survey from the warmth of your own home.
