Leaders from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers celebrated more than
the festive season at their Christmas meal.
A number of volunteers received 5 year long service awards.
Susan and Tim Wilson, both from Rainow and Julian Hanak from Sutton all received recognition for their volunteering. In key roles for the group Tim serves as Treasurer and following several years as Craft Co-ordinator Susan has just taken over the role of Webmaster.
Junior Leader, Julian Carty, was also presented with a Water Bear mascot in recognition of his support for the group. Wildlife Explorers adopted the Water Bear or Tardigrade as their mascot when they took part in a microscopy session and discovered these incredible microscopic creatures in samples of moss. Julian, a keen photographer, is now studying Archaeology at University in Bradford but plans to continue his involvement with the group at events scheduled during University vacations.
Like so many other organisations our work depends on the hard work and enthusiasm of volunteers – we run a busy programme of indoor and outdoor meetings for children aged 6 -19 as well as outreach sessions for schools and other local groups.
